2009 MEADOWS CLUB SWIM REPORT

As always, the pool at Meadows Club is a hopping place from Mid-May through the end of August.  Swimmers were greeted with a resurfaced pool bottom, new deck, new block positions, and even more green space for everyone to enjoy!

Swim Lessons

The swim lesson program was again run by SurRae Coleman, who is back for her second year at Meadows.  Approximately 50 kids participated in lesson program throughout the summer; revenue is up from last year due to privates.

In addition to coordinating the lesson program, SurRae was in charge of Life Guards this summer.

We feel fortunate to have SurRae working at Meadows Club, and hope she continues to do so for many years.

Swim Team

With only two coaches returning from last season, it was again a season of transition, but one that went extremely well.  We had 130 swimmers on the Swim Team Roster, but with family travels, other commitments, etc we had 105-110 swimmers consistently for the season.

The Coaching Staff consisted of the following people:

8 and under’s  – Lindsay Spangler

9 – 10’s – Kate Compton

11 – 12’s – Katherine Kubancik

13 – 14’s – Kelly Klein

15 – 18’s – and Head Coach – Nate Rothman

Meadows swam in six dual meets, hosting two.  We finished fifth at the BVSSL final meet, just a few points out of fourth, this is the exact placing from last year.  This is a terrific achievement as we are still able to compete against teams two or three times the size of Meadows, and still have an enjoyable fun program.  Our coaches are amazingly available to participate in all the team and age-group activities, and I believe that this is one of the key things that make being a Meadows Club beavers so special.

Bake Sale proceeds totaled $1,050 and the Grill brought in $1,243.  Revenue is slightly down from last season, but this was to be expected with one less home meet.  With proceeds from the bake sale and grill last season, we were able to purchase a new starting system, as well as new, hand-made benches for the heating area (thank you to our master carpenter, Kelly Fano for the bench construction!).  We will use our fund-raising monies from this season for next year as needed.

As always, thank you to all of our parent volunteers who help make the swim team run.   We cannot do this without your time and efforts, and I truly believe that this is what makes our swim team experience so special for our kids.

Along with KJ and the Coaching Staff, we will study the results of the survey, and address concerns and issues as warranted.  Thank you to those who took the time to fill out the Club survey.

Lastly, the turn-out for the end of year dog swim, wasn’t terribly strong, but it was a cold day, I know for a fact that the participating dogs had a blast, and thanks for starting a new Meadows Club tradition!
